Come meet NPR editor Luis Clemens

Luis Clemens, senior diversity editor for National Public Radio, will be on campus Tuesday, March 21, and Wednesday, March 22. His visit will include:

  • A public lecture on “Facts, Freedoms and the Pursuit of Journalism” at 7 p.m., March 21, in Cowles Reading Room. Clemens will discuss the challenges of journalism in an age of “fake news” and attacks on the media.
  • Clemens will also conduct a resume and cover letter workshop from 3-4:30 p.m. on March 21 in Mer. 104. Bring your resume and cover letter. RSVP here.
  • He will be available in the E.T. Meredith Center for Magazine Studies, Mer. 111, 10-11:30 a.m. on March 22 for drop-in visits from students and faculty. Stop by, have a cup of coffee and a treat, and talk with Luis about his job or your future career plans.
  • He will teach a session on “Covering Communities Different From Your Own” at 12:30-1:45 p.m. on March 22 in Mer. 104. All are welcome to attend.

Luis’ visit is sponsored by the SJMC, the E.T. Meredith Center for Magazine Studies and the Slay Fund for Social Justice.

Share your thoughts on Meredith Hall

The Drake SJMC has retained an architect to conduct a “feasibility study” this spring to help us reimagine how we might use and improve Meredith Hall. The building, constructed in 1965 by famed architect Mies van der Rohe, is an architecturally significant structure, but it is in need of an update to better fit our teaching, learning and living needs.

We need thoughts and suggestions from anyone who “lives” in Meredith Hall, especially SJMC students. The architects have created an online survey to solicit feedback. To take the survey, click  HERE; deadline for input is Friday, March 24.

Make a difference: Fill out Drake Student Survey

Drake undergraduate, graduate, and professional students recently received an email invitation to complete the Drake Student Survey. By telling us about your Drake experience, you help us identify ways to improve curriculum, student support, and the campus environment. Please take ten minutes to complete this important survey. Plus, you have an opportunity to win a thank-you reward of a $25 gift card to the University Bookstore.
