SJMC students nominated for Emmys

SJMC students have been nominated for Emmy awards in the Upper Midwest chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

  • Hannah Bigot, Ethan Fickau, A.J. Thiede, Lauren Baker and Brooke Haesemeyer were nominated for public service announcements.
  • Anna Steenson was nominated for public affairs.
  • Steenson and Bigot were nominated for best editing.

Additionally, Steenson was awarded the Academy’s Carol Rueppel Leadership Scholarship.

The awards ceremony takes place March 31 in Minneapolis.

Jobs/internships Q&A with CEO of online job board

Grab some breakfast and learn about internships during an informal career development session on Tuesday, March 7, from 9:30–11 a.m. in 124C. Martha Carrigan, CEO of Big Shoes Network, will be available to discuss job and internship opportunities in the Midwest and southeastern United States.

Big Shoes Network (BSN) operates an online job board for jobs and internships in advertising, communications, graphic design, marketing, public relations, social media and web design and development.  BSN also offers networking opportunities and workshops for students and professionals.

January Term 2018 Fair today

An informational fair on J Term 2018 will be held Monday, March 6, from 4:30-6:15 p.m. in Olmsted.  Learn about both travel seminars and on-campus offerings.

NPR diversity editor to visit Drake

Luis Clemens, senior diversity editor for National Public Radio, will be on campus after spring break: Tuesday, March 21, and Wednesday, March 22. His visit will include a public lecture on “Facts, Freedoms and the Pursuit of Journalism” at 7 p.m., March 21, in Cowles Reading Room. Clemens will discuss the challenges of journalism in an age of “fake news” and attacks on the media.

Clemens will also conduct a resume and cover letter workshop at 3 p.m. on March 21 in Mer. 104. Sign up at internship coordinator Carlyn Crowe’s office, Mer. 120.

He will teach a session on “Covering Communities Different From Your Own” at 12:30-1:45 p.m. on March 22 in Mer. 104.
