Equipment for incoming students
First-year Drake School of Journalism and Mass Communication students are required to purchase a video camera before the start of the school year.
This camera will be used to create photos and videos in the Multimedia Journalism Lab (J31), which all first-year SJMC students take in their first semester of school.
The following cameras are acceptable options:
- Any digital camera that also shoots HD video
- iPhone 5, 4 or 4S
- iPod Touch 4th or 5th generation
- iPad 2nd, 3rd or 4th generation
It is also recommended (but not required) that students buy a tripod, either a full-size tripod or a table-top version.
We also recommend that students own a Macintosh laptop computer.
