Student magazines are national contest finalists

The Annual and Drake Magazine are two of the three national finalists for feature magazine of the year in the College Media Association Pinnacle contest. Both magazines are independently produced entirely by Drake University students.

Earlier, the Pinnacle contest had announced the following individual finalists for Drake publications:

  • Best magazine cover, Drake Magazine
  • Best online main page, Urban Plains
  • Best portrait, Drake Magazine
  • Best multimedia news story, Urban Plains
  • Best podcast, Urban Plains
  • News story writing, Colton Warren and Molly Longman
  • Profile writing, Avery Gregurich

Kicking off our accreditation year

The SJMC is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication — one of only 15 private-institution programs in the world so accredited. And this year is our accreditation year: In November, we will submit our big “self study” report, which demonstrates how we are meeting our promise to provide excellent JMC education across the nine accrediting standards (for example, curriculum, student services, public service and faculty scholarship) . Then in February 2017, a team of communications professionals and professors from other accredited programs will come to Drake for a “site visit” to check us out. They’ll talk to faculty, area professionals, alumni, colleagues on campus — and our students.

Stay tuned for more information about how you can get involved!
