Remund and Bruhn published in Teaching Journalism and Mass Communication

02 Aug Posted by in SJMC news | Comments Off

Assistant professors David Remund, Ph.D., APR, and Kelly Bruhn, Ph.D., APR, have published an article in Teaching Journalism and Mass Communication, the peer-reviewed journal of the Small Programs Interest Group of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

The article is titled Beyond Simple Service Learning: Reengineering the Public Relations Capstone to More Effectively Address a Fast-Changing Industry.

This in-depth case study reviews how Remund and Bruhn reengineered Drake’s year-long public relations service-learning capstone, during the 2012-13 academic year, to provide a more dynamic, multi-faceted learning experience. They infused problem-based learning principles and evidence-based practices into the seniors’ year-long capstone service-learning experience to help these students achieve unprecedented levels of confidence.

In addition to the newly published journal article, Remund and Bruhn were recently invited to speak about their work with the seniors’ capstone project at the Public Relations Society of America Midwest District Conference, held in Omaha, Neb.
